Ten Iron-Shod Legionaries Join the Fray

Jan 3rd, 2024

It is only fitting that the first models painted for the Cult of Rust are bolter-weilding stoic Marines encased in corroded power armor.

Over the last several months, I applied my optimized Iron Warriors painting recipe to a batch of 10 Legionaries. Photos at each stage of the process below:

Overall I am satisfied with the final result. I learned a valuable lesson about thinning my oil washes and/or cleaning them up within the first 24 hours of application but was able to salvage the squad with some extensive touch-up.

All that's left for these models is to base and varnish them. I've begun to play with some test basing options and am leaning towards deviating from the grey ruined city bases used for Da Ironbullz and the Kor'shan T'au. Instead, I am opting for a rust red-orange earth with metal and stone accents, which I hope will complement the rust effects on the Iron Warriors armor.

Now that these Legionaries are finished (short of bases & varnish, of course), I've lately turned to building/converting new models. You can expect more photos of works-in-progress coming soon!
