Completed: Week 2 of 2021 Hobbying Sprint

Jan 16th, 2021

I'm pleased (and frankly a little surprised) that I'm still on track to complete my gruelling 2021 Q1-Q2 Hobbying Sprint after two full weeks. In fact, I finished my second week's goal a day early!

As outlined in a previous post, I was hoping to convert, base, and paint ~42 models for my Ork army, Da Ironbullz, in advance of a 750 point round-robin tournament in May.

This means that I'll be aiming to finish ~10 mondels per month from January through April. To accomplish this, I outlined a rough monthly cadence:

Having already finished all bases & conversions by the end of week 1, I spent the last six days painting up the bases for my January wave.

Here are a couple work-in-progress photos I took along the way:

And here are all 11 bases finished (but prior to varnishing):

Overall, I was pretty happy with how these turned out! I did have one lingering concern: how well they would fit in with my existing bases, since I had modified some of the color recipes for a few textures, notably including all of the regular dirt/gravel/fill.

To assess this, I took some pictures of units that had models represented in previous batches and this newest batch. Although the new bases aren't yet varnished, which particularly affects the appearance of the water elements, I think overall they blend in pretty well:

With the bases wrapped up for January, it's time to turn my attention to the most daunting task this month: painting 11 display-quality Ork models in just 14 days! Wish me luck...
