The 2021 hobbying sprint: 750 points in 4.5 months

To kick off the new year, three friends and I have agreed to a hobbying challenge between now and May: we will be playing a 750 point round-robin tournament in mid-May, and everyone is intending to build & paint an army for the occasion!

I’ve decided to use this opportunity to make progress on Da Ironbullz, my Ork army for the Tsaragrad project.

We’ll be playing matched 750 point games with 9th edition 40k rules and allowing Index/Legends models. Basically any option described in BattleScribe will be allowed.

Without further ado, here’s the list I’m planning on taking:

At first glance, you’ll probably note that:

1. This list isn’t quite as horde/boyz-heavy as a typical Orks list, but
2. Still has a lot of models (42!) to build and paint before May.

I don’t want to cut any corners when building & painting these models–this is a hobby-focused website, after all, not a gaming-focused website–so I needed to figure out a schedule and timeline for getting Da Ironbullz ready to bash some ‘eads in the spring.

Here’s my tentative timeline:

I’ve designed this schedule to front-load models (11 in January, 10 in February, 9 in March & April) and leave the first two weeks of May open to cleaning up any loose ends.

I’ve also written a related 500 point list just in case I fall off pace and we need to aim for a 500 point tournament instead. The models in both the 500 and 750 point lists are mostly scheduled for January-March, with the additional models to bring the list up to 750 saved for April.

Within each month, I’m going to be aiming to allocate time roughly as following:

• Week 1: Build models & bases
• Week 2: Finish building & paint bases
• Week 3: Basecoat, wash, and first highlights on models
• Week 4: Final highlights & details on models

I’ll be kicking off the January wave of Orks in a few days, and will aim to post again at the end of the week with some progress.
